Title: Type 2 Diabetes The Owner’s Manual
Author: Daryl Wein
Publisher: Daryl Wein
Diabetes is a problem that has been in existence for a long time. “Centuries ago it was well known that some people produced a very sweet tasting urine. They urinated a lot and tended to be poor in health,” according to the research of author Daryl Wein. The name given to this diagnosis was “diabetes mellitus.” Over time the name diabetes seemed to stick. People today with a diagnosis are categorized into type 1 and type 2. Wein points out that the two diagnosis are very different. His opinion is that type 2 diabetes should be referred to as carbosis. Wein feels carbosis is not diabetes and explores how common and unique this medical condition is and how it can be treated.
According to Wein true type 1 diabetes is very specific. This disease causes your body’s immune system to attack its own tissues. Insulin, a special hormone, allows glucose to act as fuel. Carbosis, or type 2 diabetes, means your body is having a problem with processing carbohydrates, which are sugars and starches. According to Wein, people with carbosis produce too much insulin. A diagnosis of carbosis means that this could potentially cause damage to eyes, kidneys, nerves and the heart. Carbosis is genetic and usually associated with obesity and high blood pressure.
Managing carbosis is as easy as avoiding eating carbohydrates. Wein conveys tips for daily maintenance. He suggests to have your doctor give you an AIC test to determine your blood sugar levels. He explains how this works in detail with graphs and charts. Readers will find chapters covering tips on weight loss, exercise, lipids, alternative fuels and a question and answer section that is very informative. The back pages share various foods and how many carbohydrates they contain.
Wein’s title of this manual has been named appropriately. This guide is informative and can help those who need a better understanding of this disease and how to get it under control. Other valuable resources are recommended. This guide is a must have for anyone who has or could potentially acquire carbosis. The message here is to do away with eating carbohydrates.
Wein is a family practice Physician Assistant who graduated from U.C. Davis School of Medicine in 1999. He is also a licensed commercial pilot and flight instructor. He discovered that having Type 2 Diabetes wasn’t the end of his flying career.
